Prep Guide for your Newborn Session

1.) Because I want baby sleepy for the session. I recommend that you try to keep your baby awake for a while before the session. Trust me it will be worth it

2.) I love “milk drunk” babies! Once you arrive please feed baby while I am setting up props to ensure baby is happy and sleepy. I may ask you to feed baby during our session if they start to get cranky.

3.) Silence is golden! During the session we need to have the house quite to keep baby asleep. If you have other young children it would be best to have me and baby in a separate room or arrange to have a sitter take them away from the studio for a few hours.

4.) Newborns are used to being all bundles up and warm. And then I come and take all their clothes off for those adorable naked shots. Therefore the home will be a bit warmer than normal during the session. (like a toasty 80 degrees or so.). We may be sweating, but baby will be nice and warm….and that’s all that matters!

5.) Relax!  I am comfortable working with newborns. They may get fussy, but I will get great shots; sometimes it just takes time to calm down the little bundle of joy. I let the baby take the lead. Feel free to rest for a bit if you like. Sometimes the baby will need to eat, get a new diaper and just need to cuddle with mom.

6.) If mom and dad want some shots with baby I recommend wearing neutral colored shirts that are free of patterns and logos. I am also a big fan of skin-on-skin portraits with you holding your baby against you. If you would like some shots like this, consider a strapless top or tank for mom and shirtless for dad.

7.) Please bring a pacifier, we may not even need it but in some cases it helps to get baby into those tricky positions. It’s a good idea to bring a snack for yourself because the session could take up to 4 hours. Sometimes baby can have little accidents so you may want to bring a spare change of clothes for yourself.

Here are a few tips and things to expect for your newborn session. I can't wait to meet your family
